from sky to seed

Every dog day

Pax, my moody, kooky, brilliant, nine year old blue merle border collie.

An easy summary of farming life with Pax, my dog, via stolen passages from the incredibly beautiful The Dog Stars by Peter Heller:

“We need a hill, I called, picking up the spade.  We need two rows built up nice for the potatoes.  Jasper furrowed his brow and agreed, happy just to lie on a pile of sunwarmed dirt and supervise.  Hey, where are the old stakes for the beans?  Where did we put em?  Jasper’s ears came up and his mouth opened in his version of a smile. He didn’t know. He didn’t give a fuck.  Were life that simple, I thought, as I had many times before. Simple as a dog’s life.”
